Rashid Nurgaliyev holds meeting of Interdepartmental Commission on Counteracting Extremism in Russian Federation

On March 30, 2012, Russia's MVD hosted a scheduled meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Counteracting Extremism in the Russian Federation under the chairmanship of Minister of the Interior Army General Rashid Nurgaliyev of the Russian Federation.

Opening the meeting, Minister of the Interior Army General Rashid Nurgaliyev of the Russian Federation pointed out that in 2011, the Commission performed a large amount of work. According to the President's instructions, its personnel, panel and secretariat were formed within the established deadline. For a short time, eight visiting sessions were conducted in all Federal Districts. They were attended by the Plenipotentiaries of Russia's President in the Federal Districts, the heads of the subjects, the leaders of the territorial law enforcement bodies and other regional authorities, the representatives of the public organizations, experts' community, main religious denominations and mass media.

Based on the results of the visiting sessions, specific instructions were prepared for the federal ministries and agencies, and authorities in the subjects of the Russian Federation. In the country's regions, joint programs have been developed and approved on counteracting extremist activities; the work has been intensified on the extremism prevention among young people, fostering intolerance towards the nationalism, religious extremism, and xenophobia.

The efforts taken by Russia's MV and other anti-extremism agencies resulted in the reduction of the registered extremist crimes by 5.2% in 2011. In the country's regions, the activities have been stopped of a number of very dangerous radical formations, groups of the international terrorist organizations committing grave crimes related to the national, racial and religious hatred, including violent and cynical murders.

Subject to the Comprehensive Interdepartmental Plan, the law enforcement bodies, together with other authorities, ensured the safety of the election campaigns on the federal scale. High professional skills, literate and correct actions of the law enforcement agencies, as well as their observance of the citizens' rights and freedoms during the social and political mass events were appreciated both by the public organizations, human rights activists and ordinary citizens in all regions of the Russian Federation.

In 2012, the Interdepartmental Commission on Counteracting Extremism will continue its work. In its activities, it intends to wider use all the capacities of the public organizations, experts' community, and religious denominations.
