Today, Army General Rashid Nurgaliyev, the Minister of the Interior of the Russian Federation, held a meeting with Brigadier General Mostafa Najjar, the Minister of the Interior of Islamic Republic of Iran, in Russia's MVD.
On Russia's behalf, the event brought together Police Lieutenant General Sergey Bulavin, the State Secretary and Deputy Minister of the Interior of Russia, Police Colonel General Yuri Kokov, the Chief of the Anti-Extremism Main Directorate of Russia's MVD, and other officers of the Russian Ministry of the Interior.
The Iranian delegation was represented by Mahmoud Sajjadi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Russian Federation, Mahmoud Bayat, the Director General of the International Affairs Department of the IRI Anti-Drug Staff and other senior officials.
The head of the Russian Interior Ministry informed the Iranian guests about the reform of the Internal Affairs Authorities which main objective is to create a modern and efficient justice system in Russia.
Today, the MVD officers have a whole range of the priority tasks to perform: combating terrorism, ensuring security of the infrastructure facilities and safety at crowded places, preventing the religious and national hatred from being stirred up, combating organized crime and corruption.
Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev pointed out that the most important element of the implemented changes was the consolidation of the public opinion as the main criterion for assessing the police performance.
According to the MVD Head, one of the priority areas of cooperation with Iranian partners is to work together to ensure security in the Caspian Sea. Through the involvement of the Russian Ministry of the Interior, the international expert counselors have developed a draft agreement between the Russian Federation, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan on cooperation in the field of security in the Caspian Sea.
This agreement provides a legal basis for cooperation between the law enforcement agencies in such areas as combating terrorism, organized crime, smuggling, human trafficking and illegal migration, illicit trafficking in arms, drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, the laundering of proceeds from crime, illegal extraction of biological resources. The agreement also provides for cooperation in the maritime and sea navigation security, and struggle against piracy.
When discussing cooperation in the anti-extremism combat, Rashid Nurgaliyev emphasized that against the backdrop of growing extremist attitude around the world, the consolidation of joint efforts by the states can help cope with new challenges and threats.
During the talks, a Model Draft Agreement on Cooperation between the Ministry of the Interior and the competent authorities of Iran was presented to the Iranian guests. This agreement provides for the cooperation on a wide range of law enforcement issues.
In conclusion, Rashid Nurgaliyev thanked the Iranian delegation and personally Mostafa Najjar for the constructive dialogue and confirmed the readiness of the Russian Ministry of the Interior to develop relations with the Iranian counterparts in all areas of the crime counteraction.
