RF Minister of Interior Rashid Nurgaliev held meeting with journalists on the occasion of Russian Press Day

Today, the RF Minister of Interior General of the Army Rashid Nurgaliev held an annual meeting with journalists in Moscow which was devoted to the Russian Press Day. Such meetings have already become a fine tradition presenting an opportunity for the management of the Ministry of Interior of Russia and representatives of the mass media to discuss highly relevant issues in an informal casual way.

From the time when the previous event was held a year has passed. This year was difficult and to some extent was a landmark for the Russian militia. According to Rashid Nurgaliev, the social requirements to the proficiency and morality of employees of law enforcement bodes which have always been always high have become still higher lately. This is naturally determined by the law enforcement bodies' development from what they were at the turn to the 21st century. A large amount of technical upgrade work has been accomplished since then. State-of-the-art technologies are widely employed in the daily activity. Also, the material resources of the units have considerably increased.

At the same time, the Minister emphasized that this was not enough for the quality improvement of the militia activity. That is why along with the introduction of the innovative science and technology achievements primary attention was given to increasing the professional competence of employees, the reinforcement of the discipline, the improvement of the moral and psychological atmosphere in office teams, to the eradication of corruption. These steps are what the society is waiting from the Ministry of Interior of Russia for.

The main thing is that that now this work is conducted openly, with the participation of the whole civil society in the dialogue. This is one of the main priorities who is implemented by the Ministry of Interior of Russia throughout the recent years.

Finally, the most objective criterion of the assessment of the law enforcement bodies' activity is the trust of citizens, their confidence in the safety of their rights and freedoms. This approach, instead of analyzing the statistical data, was applied for instance to estimate the efficiency of militia activity in the context of the international project "Week of visiting militia stations". Its Russian stage took place at the end of the previous year in 164 units in 18 regions of Russia. All in all 20 states took part in this project.

Rashid Nurgaliev observed that it is due to the journalists' proficiency that the citizens can receive reliable information about the activity of employees of the Ministry of Interior of Russia in time. Each journalist attending the today's meeting brought a contribution to building an unbiased public opinion about the activity of the law enforcement authorities.

Today it is more important than ever that each inhabitant of our country from Kamchatka to Kaliningrad knows that most of employees and military men of the Ministry of Interior protect and provide selflessly the well-being, safety and peace of the Russian citizens, not sparing themselves, at times not sparing their own lives. This is the chief objective of the daily militia activity.

As to the immediate future, the Minister reminded that the President of the country Dmitry Medvedev signed a Decree "About measures to improve the activity of law enforcement bodies of the Russian Federation" at the end of the previous year.

This document is to increase the efficiency and to optimize the activity of the Russian militia, to put more reliability to the social guarantees of the employees. Therefore, a large amount of work will have to be done in the near future to inform both the citizens, and the militia employees about the forthcoming reforms. It is also important that the words are objective and accords to the deeds.

Much should also be done to solve other equally important problems. Among them is the implementation of the national multilevel system of prevention, including the prevention of the teenage criminality; the safeguard measures on roads of our country; the struggle against corruption and many other issues. They can be efficiently solved only if the efforts of the Ministry of Interior and the whole society are consolidated.

The head of the Ministry of Interior of Russia expressed his hope that the further practical interaction with the mass media in this and many other essential respects will get stronger and develop.

During the meeting Rashid Nurgaliev awarded the journalists with medals "For comradeship-in-arms", certificates of honor and valuable gifts.
